Gun fit - what's that?

by: Joe Rankin

The inexperienced shooter typically has no idea that a shotgun should “fit” him or her. There are many technical terms & considerations to a properly fitted shotgun. But, basically the gun should be fit to the shooter so that it shoots where he or she is looking. Notice I said the gun “should be fit to the shooter”. Far too often, shooters try to adjust their body to the gun…it just won’t work that way. (Refer to article on "Which Gun" for more on gun fit.) I have an autoloader with a fully adjustable stock which I encourage my beginning students to shoot before selecting a new gun. Anyone who works with me is welcome to use that gun anytime. It has saved lots of people the agony of purchasing the wrong gun for the job.
